How To Reach Nainital – Nestled in the Kumaon ranges of the captivating Himalayas, Nainital is one of the greatest destination for the nature lovers. Also housing the administrative headquarters of the Nainital District it is one of the most sought after tourist destinations of India. Nainital has traditionally been called the “Lake District of India”.
The Nainital district is located in the Kumaon region of the state of Uttarakhand. The Headquarters of the district are located at Nainital, a small hill station which is arguably one of the finest hill stations of India.
Most buses leave from the Tallital bus stand. Although there are direct buses from Nainital, however there are better connectivity from Haldwani and Bhowali.
From Haldwani, regular buses going to Ramnagar, Delhi, Haridwar and the Nepal border at Banbassa. Haldwani is also a major train terminus.

For points north, take a bus or share jeep from Nainital to Bhowali (₹10, 20 minutes) and catch one of the regular onward buses to Almora, Kausani and Ranikhet.
Five private buses direct to Ramnagar (₹70, 3½ hours) leave from the Sukhatal bus stand, northwest of Mallital, between 9am and 3.30pm.
Travel agencies sell tickets for Delhi in private overnight deluxe coaches in price ₹350 to ₹800 which take nine hours for Delhi and leave from Tallital around 11am and 10pm.

From the Kumaon Taxi Union stand in Tallital, taxis cost ₹100/500 (shared/private) to Kathgodam or Haldwani (1½ hours), ₹1200 to Ramnagar (three hours) and ₹1500 to Almora (three hours) or Ranikhet (three hours).
Share jeeps leave when full, and go to Bhowali (₹15, 20 minutes) and Kathgodam/Haldwani (₹60, 1½ hours).
From Delhi, follow NH24 to Rampur via Hapur Bypass, Gajraula, Joya and Moradabad Bypass. At Rampur Railway Station, turn left onto NH87 to Nainital via Rudrapur, Tanda More (turn left, the straight road goes to Pantnagar), Haldwani, Kathgodam, Ranibagh and Jeolikot.
Uttarakhand Roadways (Tel: 011-22141611) has a daily direct overnight bus service from Delhi’s ISBT Anand Vihar to Nainital, 15 services between 4 am and 11 pm for Haldwani, and 18 services between 7.30am and 11.30 pm for Kathgodam
Nearest railhead: Kathgodam (33 km/1 hrs), connected daily to Delhi by the overnight Ranikhet Express from Old Delhi. The Uttarakhand Sampark Kranti Express from Old Delhi arrives less conveniently at night.
The Anand Vihar-Kathgodam Shatabdi takes just 5 hrs, reaching Kathgodam at 11 am. The Dehra Dun-Kathgodam Express is a daily overnight connection between Kumaon and Garhwal.
The Bagh Express is a daily overnight link with Howrah and Lucknow. A taxi to Nainital costs Rs 500 from Kathgodam.
