On their excursion, Guruji was so much impressed that he decided to set a camp on the bank of the river. Guruji laid the foundation of this holy city with his own holy hands and named it Paon-tikka, which is famous as Paonta Sahib today.

Ram Rai Gurudwara 

Ram Rai Gurudwara, constructed in early 17th century, is one of the oldest gurudwaras in this valley which was constructed by Ram Rai, the 7th Sikh Guru. It is very popular tourist spot in Dehradun specially in pilgrims.

The gurudwara was established with the help of the contemporary ruler . According to legend, it is said that Guru Ram Rai was casted away for becoming a Sikh Guru and was forced to leave his native place which make it place of interest in Dehradun.

After being moved out from his home town, he settled in Dehradun, where he constructed this famous gurudwara. Adorning the centre of this shrine is the holy book of Sikhs, Adigrantha.
